practicing for maia's birthday..

cupcakes, glue guns, paper cutters, cupcakes, cake mix, mixers, frosting, cupcakes, lollipop sticks, cupcakes, stickers, cupcakes, ribbons, and more CUPCAKES.. these were the only things on my mind in september as i prepared for maia's first birthday party. i wanted to make everything myself because it is such a special day for her.

so i made her cupcake stand.. after hours of cutting ribbon, burning myself with a glue gun and then doing it all over again i think it turned out nicely..

i designed and assembled cupcake toppers which we unfortunately didn't use..

i designed stickers for her m&m party favors..

and i made her a rice krispie treat cupcake with a little candy cupcake topper (made from a mini reese's cup with frosting)

the thing i took the most time on because i wanted to make it from scratch was her giant cupcake cake.. i made the cupcake liner from candy melts and the cake from a giant cupcake pan..

one practice session turned out great.. (from boxed ingredients though..)

when i made it all from scratch (cake & frosting) i didn't wait long enough for it to cool.. so although it turned out well..

it all melted when i cut into it! #fail!

this was the cupcake topper i ordered from etsy.. i loved it so much!

.. and when the big day came.. it all turned out just the way i wanted!
